A 15-year-old boy has been killed after being hit by a bus while riding a hoverboard.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed he was riding a self-propelled scooter at about 6.30pm last night in Alperton, west London, and died at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Officers attended and a 15-year-old boy was found seriously injured at the location.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Next of kin have been informed.

“Whilst officers believe they know who the deceased it they await formal identification. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.”

In October, the force tweeted to confirm guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service that the "self-balancing scooters" cannot be ridden on roads or pavements, and are only allowed on private property.
